Rachel finds out from her that Katie was healthy and discovered Katie's body disfigured in the closet. Katie's close friends recount to Rachel the tale of the legend of the cursed filmtape and Katie's friend Becca is in a mental institution for watching Katie dying. Katie's boyfriend, as well as two of her closest acquaintances, also passed away due to strange accidents that occurred that same night around 10:30 pm. Rachel is on her way from Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie and her friends watched the videotape that was cursed. Rachel stumbles across the tape and starts watching it, then the phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel turns to Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend as well as a video analyst for help. Rachel later discovers that Aidan (her son who is with Noah) saw the tape, and told her that he believed her. Rachel investigates the lighthouse on the tape, and discovers it was located in Moesko Island, the home of a slain horse breeder named Anna Morgan, who appeared on the videotape that was cursed. Rachel found out that Anna had an adopted daughter named Samara who was able to burn frightening images into the bodies and minds of animals, people, and other objects. Rachel meets Anna's widower Richard. He makes Rachel go away as soon as she begins asking questions regarding Samara.
